Russian forces launched a missile and drone attack against Kyiv and multiple other Ukrainian regions overnight, hitting non-residential buildings, warehouse facilities, and open areas while prompting air defense operations across the capital, according to reports by pravda.com.ua, 24 Kanal, and TSN.
Ballistic Strikes and Falling Debris Across Kyiv Districts
Explosions echoed across Kyiv in the early hours of October 7 as the Ukrainian Air Forces warned of incoming ballistic missiles and high-speed targets. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko reported that falling debris from intercepted targets caused damage in several city districts. In the Obolon district, debris struck non-residential territory, while impacts in the Podil district hit warehouse facilities. Additional debris fires broke out on open ground in the Darnitsa district, and non-residential properties sustained impacts in the Shevchenko district.
The assault followed warnings issued late on October 6. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged residents not to ignore air raid alerts and to seek shelter, citing updated intelligence data on a potential large-scale strike. Andriy Kovalenko, former head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, also warned that Russian forces were preparing an attack likely targeting critical infrastructure. Monitoring channels reported that Russian strategic bombers, including Tu-160 aircraft operating from Irkutsk Oblast and Tu-95 bombers from the Olenegorsk airfield, took to the air ahead of the launch window.

Drones and Missiles Strike Multiple Ukrainian Regions
While Kyiv faced ballistic threats, air defense systems and monitoring units tracked waves of explosive projectiles across multiple Ukrainian oblasts. 24 Kanal and TSN reported that jet-powered unmanned aerial vehicles entered Ukrainian airspace from the north and south, targeting regions including Sumy, Kharkiv, Chernihiv, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Poltava, and Vinnytsia. In Sumy, an attack in the Kovpakivskyi district resulted in one fatality and two injuries when an enemy drone struck near a shopping center.
Explosions were also recorded in Zaporizhzhia, Dnipro, Kremenchuk, and Kharkiv, where monitoring networks reported the interception of an aerial target near the Zhuky district. As the threat level rose, some Kyiv residents sought shelter overnight in the city’s underground metro stations rather than waiting at home.
