Rapid Response from Emergency Services
The Rustenburg Local Municipality Emergency and Disaster Management team responded to a call regarding the house fire at approximately 10:25 PM. According to Acting Municipal Manager Odirile Madiba, fire engines were dispatched within minutes, leaving the station at 10:28 PM and arriving on the scene at 10:40 PM.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a fully engulfed garage and flames spreading to other areas of the property. A team of four firefighters, including the station commander of fire operations, utilized one major fire engine and a response vehicle to contain and extinguish the blaze.
Extent of the Damage
Video footage circulating on social media platforms, including Facebook, shows a double garage, an open-plan lounge, and two vehicles – a Hyundai Grand i10 and a Mercedes-Benz – completely consumed by flames. Despite the intensity of the fire, emergency personnel successfully prevented it from spreading to the rest of the house, saving other rooms from destruction.
Investigation Underway
The scene was handed over to the South African Police Service (SAPS) for further investigation to determine the cause of the fire. Authorities will investigate whether the blaze was accidental or the result of foul play.
