Marchenko Nets First Hat Trick with Toronto
Kirill Marchenko recorded his first hat trick in a Maple Leafs uniform and the fifth of his NHL career during his 300th NHL game. Marchenko put Toronto ahead 2-1 on a power play in the first period, added a second goal in the second period, and completed the hat trick at 16:51 of the second period off a centring pass from Colton Sissons. I will remember this night for sure, but a win is more important and I’m kind of frustrated because it was my mistake in overtime,
Marchenko said after the game. Auston Matthews opened the scoring for Toronto, and Sergei Bobrovsky made 29 saves.

Tavares Leaves Game Following Third-Period Collision
John Tavares exited the contest early in the third period after colliding with Buffalo forward Josh Norris. Hiller Assesses Defensive Breakdown
Toronto head coach Jim Hiller addressed the team’s defensive struggles after the Sabres capitalized on third-period scoring chances. I would say it seems like (we have been more passive) in the last three or four games than the first home stretch,
Hiller said. Sometimes good players can do that to you, they can get some separation and that makes it look difficult. We have to be better (in the defensive zone), there’s no question.

Upcoming Matchup Against the Islanders
The Maple Leafs return to action on Saturday to host the New York Islanders at home, looking to rebound from the overtime loss.
