Texas’s Safest Cities of 2026

Five Dallas suburbs—Trophy Club, Parker, Melissa, Murphy, and Colleyville—dominate the top ten list of safest cities in Texas, according to a recent report by SafeWise. Trophy Club ranks as the safest city in the state, followed closely by Parker at number two.

SafeWise Methodology

SafeWise’s 2026 report analyzed FBI-reported property and violent crime data from 343 cities, adjusting the data for population size to allow for fair comparisons between metropolitan areas, rural towns, and suburban communities. The rankings consider factors beyond crime statistics, including local agency reporting practices, community resources, prevention efforts, and residents’ lived experiences.

  • No. 1 — Trophy Club (Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington)

Texas Crime Rates and Safety Perceptions

The violent crime rate in Texas is 4.44 incidents per 1,000 people, consistent with the national average of 4.43. However, the statewide property crime rate of 23.4 incidents per 1,000 people is slightly higher than the national rate. Despite these statistics, Texans report feeling less safe than the average American, with only 49 percent of survey respondents stating they feel safe in the state, compared to the national norm of 52 percent.

Regional Trends

The Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan statistical area has the most cities represented in the SafeWise top 10. North Texas cities have consistently performed well in “safe city” surveys in recent years, with Arlington and Fort Worth previously scoring top-10 spots on rankings of America’s safest large cities. Frisco and McKinney were also ranked among the nation’s safest suburbs in 2025 by SmartAsset.

Perception vs. Reality

SafeWise’s State of Safety survey revealed a disconnect between perception and reality, with Texans reporting fewer personal experiences with property crime and package theft than expected, given the statewide crime rates.
