Loire Valley Street Art Museum Faces Closure Amidst Debt

Saint-Chamond, France – The Musée d’Art Urbain et du Street Art (Mausa), a relatively new addition to the Loire Valley’s cultural landscape, is facing a “temporary cessation of operation” due to mounting debts. Founder Stanislas Belhomme announced a debt of €62,000 on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, and stated the demand for at least €100,000 in investment to continue operations. Le Progrès reported the news.

A Short-Lived Venture

The museum, located in Halle 07 in Novaciéries, opened in late May 2025 with considerable fanfare, but has struggled financially. It has been closed since February 10, 2026, while a restructuring procedure is initiated. IF Saint-Étienne details the museum’s rapid decline.

Debt and Disputes

Belhomme attributes the museum’s difficulties to a falling out with his two co-founders over the summer. He repurchased 60% of the company and injected an additional €42,000 of his own funds, but debts continued to accumulate. Unpaid invoices to artists and service providers have also contributed to the financial strain. Belhomme cited an €800 debt to a musician who performed at the museum and an €8,000 bill owed to artist Yellow. Radio Scoop also reported on the museum’s financial woes.

Seeking Investment

Belhomme is actively seeking investors and patrons to inject the necessary capital to save the museum. He estimates a minimum of €100,000 is required for survival. He acknowledges the challenge of finding investors within a limited timeframe of three months. Despite the difficulties, Belhomme expressed optimism, stating he was scheduled to meet with potential investors on February 18, 2026. Le Progrès reported on this.

A Recurring Pattern?

The Mausa’s struggles are not unique. Similar street art museums in Vauban (Alsace) have found success, but others in Jura and Moselle have closed shortly after opening due to financial issues. IF Saint-Étienne highlighted this trend.
