Saint-Germain-du-Puch: Municipal Land Acquisitions and Budget Planning for 2026

The municipality of Saint-Germain-du-Puch is strategically acquiring land in the town center to address growing housing demand and facilitate the development of community facilities. This decision, made during a municipal council meeting on February 5, 2026, signals a proactive approach to urban planning and community development as the town prepares its 2026 budget.

Land Acquisition Details

The council approved the pre-emptive purchase of several plots located at 1 Route de Créon. The total cost for the two properties amounts to 124,000 euros, including a purchase price of 110,000 euros and 14,000 euros in associated commissions. These acquisitions are intended to support the construction of new housing units to meet the increasing demand for rental properties in the area, as well as provide space for collective amenities.

In addition to the purchased properties, a 245 square meter plot of “ownerless property” at the same address has been incorporated into the municipal domain following the completion of necessary legal procedures.

Recognition of Long-Serving Official

The February 5th council meeting also served as an occasion to honor Michel Laveau, a departing deputy who has dedicated 37 years to public service. Mayor François Tosi presented Laveau with a custom-made makhila (a traditional Basque walking stick) from the Ainciart Bergara workshop in Larressore. The walking stick bears a Basque inscription translating to “A man’s dedication lives on even after he is gone,” recognizing Laveau’s lasting contribution to the community.

Budget Approval Timeline

The vote on the 2026 budget is scheduled to take place at the next municipal assembly, following elections in March. This recent council meeting was the final session of the current mandate, setting the stage for the new council to finalize the town’s financial plans for the coming year.

Local Theatre Festival

Saint-Germain-du-Puch also hosted its first autumn theatre festival from November 14-17, 2023, organized by Saint-Germain en Scène and the town’s municipality. The festival featured eight plays performed by local amateur troupes, with attendees encouraged to contribute donations at their discretion. Le Résistant reported that the event aimed to build on the town’s existing theatrical tradition and foster community engagement.
