Samantha Barry Steps Down as Glamour Editor-in-Chief Amid Condé Nast Restructuring
On April 16, 2026, Samantha Barry announced her resignation as editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine, marking the end of an eight-year tenure at the publication. Her departure coincided with a major restructuring at Condé Nast, which included the closure of Self magazine and the shutdown of Glamour‘s international editions in Germany, Mexico, and Spain.
Barry shared the news via an Instagram post, stating, “After eight phenomenal years at Glamour I’m stepping away.” She noted that the decision had been under consideration for some time and aligned with shifts in the company’s global operations. “It’s something I’ve been thinking about for a while and with changes to our global operations now is the time,” she wrote.
During her leadership, Barry oversaw Glamour‘s evolution into a digitally focused brand, expanding its audience and revenue streams while launching campaigns centered on women’s empowerment. She was promoted to global editorial director of Glamour in October 2024, a role that included supervision of the magazine’s international editions.
Her exit followed a memo from Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch, who confirmed the discontinuation of Self, a health and wellness publication founded in 1979. Lynch stated that evolving audience behaviors meant there was no viable path forward for the magazine in its current digital format. The closure ends Self‘s 47-year publication history. Its content will be integrated into Allure and Glamour.
Lynch’s memo similarly detailed the cessation of Glamour‘s international print and digital operations in Germany, Mexico, and Spain, reflecting a broader strategic pivot by Condé Nast toward its most profitable titles amid challenges in digital publishing economics.
Barry joined Glamour in 2018 from CNN, having previously worked at RTÉ. Throughout her tenure, she collaborated closely with Anna Wintour, whom she credited as a consistent supporter. “Working alongside Anna Wintour, who championed me at every turn, has been one of my great professional privileges,” Barry said in her farewell message.
The simultaneous announcements represent one of the most significant shifts in fashion media leadership in recent years, underscoring the ongoing transformation of legacy media companies in response to changing consumer habits and digital disruption.
