Samsung Galaxy S26 Series: A Deep Dive into Optimization and AI
Samsung’s latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S26 series – including the Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra – have officially launched, emphasizing performance optimizations and advanced artificial intelligence features. Announced at Galaxy Unpacked in San Francisco, the series builds upon the foundation of the Galaxy S25 models, with a particular focus on enhancing AI processing capabilities.
Design and Build: A Unified Aesthetic
For the first time, the Galaxy S series adopts a unified design language across all models. The Galaxy S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra share a consistent look and color options, including Cobalt Violet, White, Black, and Sky Blue 23, with exclusive options of Pink Gold and Silver Shadow available through Samsung.com. Samsung has streamlined the design, creating a cohesive visual identity.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra is notably the lightest in the S Ultra line, weighing 214 grams, although maintaining a slim profile of 7.9 millimeters. A significant material change sees the Ultra model transition from titanium to third-generation hardened Armor Aluminum, a move Wired reports is intended to improve heat dissipation. This is coupled with a fresh evaporation chamber, promising 21% more efficient cooling.
Privacy Display: A First-of-Its-Kind Feature
The Galaxy S26 Ultra introduces a groundbreaking feature: the Privacy Display. This hardware-driven innovation utilizes two types of pixels on the OLED panel. One pixel emits light directly to the user’s eyes, while another is wider, allowing light to reach the sides. By disabling the wider pixels, the Privacy Display significantly limits visibility from angles other than directly in front of the screen. The feature can be activated for the entire screen or selectively applied to specific applications, such as banking apps, offering a customizable level of privacy. While activating the Privacy Display results in a slight decrease in brightness and resolution, the benefit is substantial, particularly in sensitive environments.
Performance and Chipset
Powering the Galaxy S26 series is the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite for Galaxy chipset. This customized chip boasts a 39% more powerful NPU, a 24% more powerful GPU, and a 19% more powerful CPU compared to its predecessors. The S26 series is available with 12GB of RAM paired with 256GB or 512GB of storage, and a 16GB RAM option for the 1TB variant.
Camera Enhancements
Samsung has made significant improvements to the camera system. The 50MP telephoto lens with 5x optical zoom now has a wider aperture (f/2.9, a 37% increase in light intake), and the primary 200MP sensor boasts an even larger aperture (f/1.4, a 47% increase in light intake). These enhancements promise improved low-light performance and better image processing. The Galaxy S26 Ultra also supports a new codec for 8K video recording at 30 FPS, offering virtually lossless video quality for editing.
Battery and Charging
The Galaxy S26 series maintains a 5,000 mAh battery capacity. However, charging speeds have been increased to 60W, enabling a 0-75% charge in approximately 30 minutes. Wireless charging has also been upgraded to 25W.
Pricing and Availability
Pre-orders for the Galaxy S26 series began on February 25, with official sales commencing on March 11. Pricing starts at $900 for the Galaxy S26, $1,100 for the Galaxy S26+, and $1,300 for the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The Galaxy S26 and S26+ have experienced a $100 price increase, likely due to increased RAM costs. Samsung also unveiled the Galaxy Buds4 ($179) and Buds4 Pro ($249), also available from March 11. Wired reports that Mobil Emergency is offering pre-order options starting at 600 CZK per month, with discounts and a 3-year warranty.
