Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra: A Deep Dive into the Newest Flagship

Samsung has introduced the Galaxy S26 series, comprised of the S26, S26 Plus, and the premium S26 Ultra, at its first Galaxy Unpacked event of the year. The S26 Ultra continues Samsung’s tradition of delivering top-of-the-line features, with this year’s standout innovation being the Privacy Display, designed to customize screen visibility for enhanced privacy.

Design and Display: Sleeker, Lighter, and More Private

The Galaxy S26 series boasts a refined, modern aesthetic with rounded curvatures and a cohesive color palette. The S26 Ultra is notably slimmer and lighter than its predecessors, measuring 6.44 x 3.07 x 0.31 inches and weighing 214 grams. This represents a reduction in both thickness and weight compared to the S25 Ultra (6.41 x 3.06 x 0.32 inches, 218g) and the S24 Ultra (6.40 x 3.11 x 0.34 inches, 233g). The S26 Ultra also features an aluminum frame, a departure from the titanium frames used in the S25 and S24 Ultra models.

The S26 Ultra’s 6.9-inch AMOLED display, with a 3,120 x 1,440 pixel resolution and a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate, is a marginal increase in size compared to the 6.8-inch displays found in the S25 and S24 Ultra. All three screens share a pixel density of approximately 500 ppi. However, the most significant display innovation is the Privacy Display. This feature, the result of over five years of research and development, limits side-angle viewing without requiring a separate screen protector. When activated, the display remains clear when viewed directly but restricts visibility from the sides, offering enhanced privacy in public spaces.

The S26 Ultra’s screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Armor 2, offering improved scratch and drop resistance compared to the Gorilla Glass Armor used in the S25 and S24 Ultra.

Camera Capabilities: Software Enhancements with Familiar Hardware

While the S26 Ultra maintains the same camera specifications as its predecessors, it introduces software enhancements to improve image quality, and functionality. All three Ultra models feature a quad-camera system: a 200-megapixel wide lens, a 50-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto lens, and a 50-megapixel 5x telephoto lens. They also share a 12-megapixel front-facing camera.

New camera features include Horizontal Lock, which stabilizes the horizon during video recording, improved skin tone accuracy in selfies, and automatic categorization of screenshots within the Gallery app. The S26 Ultra also features larger apertures to capture better low-light photos.

Performance and Battery: Power and Efficiency Improvements

The Galaxy S26 Ultra is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy processor, building upon the Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy in the S25 Ultra and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the S24 Ultra. All three models feature a 5,000 mAh battery, but the S26 Ultra supports faster charging speeds at 60W wired and 25W wireless, compared to the 45W wired and 15W wireless charging of the S24 and S25 Ultra. The S26 Ultra, like its predecessors, does not include built-in magnets for accessories but can support them with a compatible case.

The S26 Ultra is available with 12GB or 16GB of RAM, paired with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. The S24 and S25 Ultra models are only available with 12GB of RAM.
