Driver in Crash That Killed 12-Year-Old Dies, Investigation Ongoing
San Antonio, TX – Raul Gallegos, 20, has died from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash on Tuesday evening that resulted in the death of his 12-year-old nephew, Jonathan Rivera, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
The crash occurred just after 6:30 p.m. At the intersection of North Elmendorf Street and Culebra Road. Witnesses reported that two vehicles – a sedan and a truck – were racing before the incident. The sedan, driven by Gallegos with Rivera as a passenger, lost control while traveling westbound on Culebra Road and collided with another vehicle.
Jonathan Rivera was pronounced dead at the scene. Raul Gallegos was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. A 66-year-old woman driving the vehicle struck by the sedan was also injured and taken to a local hospital; her condition remains unknown.
Police stated that the driver of the truck involved in the alleged race fled the scene and has not yet been apprehended. The San Antonio Police Department has confirmed that the investigation is active, and ongoing.
