Multiple Fatalities Reported in San Diego-Area Traffic Collisions
San Diego County has experienced a series of tragic traffic incidents over the past ten days, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals. Authorities have identified the victims and are continuing investigations into the causes of these collisions.
Recent Fatalities
Alexander Charmoli
On Thursday, March 19, 2026, 18-year-old Alexander Michael Charmoli of Apache Junction, Arizona, died in a motorcycle collision on Interstate 805 near Eastgate Mall in University City. According to the California Highway Patrol, Charmoli collided with a sedan and was ejected from his motorcycle. He was transported to Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla, where he was pronounced deceased.
James Berta
Two days prior, on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, 78-year-old James Berta of Coronado died in a collision involving a bicycle and an SUV at the intersection of State Route 75 and Tulagi Road. Berta was pronounced dead at the scene.
Antonio Boccia
On Monday, March 16, 2026, 78-year-old Antonio Boccia was fatally injured after being struck by a vehicle on Challenge Boulevard in La Mesa. He was transported to Sharp Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 8:30 a.m.
Guillermo Hernandez and Grace Parsons
On Sunday, March 15, 2026, 33-year-old Guillermo Hernandez of Valley Center died when his pickup truck collided with a sedan on Cole Grade Road. A passenger in the sedan, 75-year-old Grace Parsons of Encinitas, also died as a result of the crash. Parsons was transported to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, where she was pronounced dead.
Ray Fredeluces
On March 14, 2026, Ray Fredeluces, 49, of Chula Vista, was killed in a head-on collision on Otay Lakes Road.
