## King Tut’s Sandals: Symbols of Power and Luxury

When Howard Carter and his team opened Tutankhamun’s sarcophagus in 1922, the young king was found to be wearing gleaming gold sandals and gold toe covers. These were part of a larger collection of funerary objects designed to equip the king for the afterlife.
