A severe rainstorm impacted São Paulo on Monday afternoon, February 16, 2026, leaving approximately 90,000 customers without electricity in the capital city and surrounding metropolitan areas, according to Enel. The storm also caused fallen trees and localized flooding.

Impact of the Storm

Initial reports indicated around 70,000 addresses were affected by power outages around 7:00 PM local time, with the number increasing to 90,000 shortly after. Guarulhos experienced reports of people stranded due to the flooding. The São Paulo Fire Department responded to at least 26 calls regarding fallen trees and three calls related to flooding. Individuals were reported to be stranded at a gas station on Avenida Monteiro Lobato in Guarulhos.

Areas Affected

The city of São Paulo was placed on alert for flooding during the afternoon, but the alert was lifted around 7:00 PM by the Emergency Management Center (CGE). The East and North zones of the city were the most affected areas, specifically São Miguel Paulista, Santana, and Pirituba. Enel reported that the North Zone of the capital, along with the municipalities of Taboão da Serra and Itapecerica da Serra, were also significantly impacted.

Enel stated it has activated its summer contingency plan and reinforced its field teams. As of shortly before 8:00 PM, technicians were working to restore power to approximately 65,000 customers, representing about 0.79% of the company’s service area in the São Paulo metropolitan region.
