150 Years of solidarity: Capriata d’Orba’s Saoms Celebrates a Milestone

A significant milestone is approaching for the Società Agricola Operaia di Mutuo Soccorso (Saoms) of Capriata d’Orba. In October, the association reached its 150th anniversary and is preparing to celebrate with a series of events.

Saoms President Carlo Campora stated: “When the Society – as the people of Capriata simply call it – was founded, workers lacked health and pension protections. Following the example of other mutual aid societies, just over fifty people came together to create this organization, which provided assistance to members in need. Its activities expanded into education, culture, and entertainment.

“In 150 years, much has changed.Today, workers have protections, but suffering still exists, and we must continue to help. that’s why the values passed down to us remain incredibly relevant.”

A conference titled “The Value of Solidarity” will be held on Saturday, November 29th, at 3:00 PM at the company headquarters. The event will feature a presentation on microcredit, an initiative launched years ago to support families facing hardship, especially in the Alessandria region.
