“I think we need to prepare for the worst,” a terrified Sarah Barlow states in a dramatic new trailer released for Coronation Street. After months spent behind bars, Tina O’Brien’s character is finally facing her long-awaited trial for the murder of Theo Silverton, with the episodes set to air from Wednesday 14 October.
Viewers have watched the storyline unfold since flashback scenes aired in June, revealing that Sarah was Theo’s killer. She was shown using a scaffolding pole to kill him after confronting him over the abuse suffered by her friend Todd Grimshaw. Following that revelation, Sarah was arrested and charged with murder in July.

Inside the Courtroom Drama
The atmospheric new promo trailer features a terrified Sarah standing in the dock while an ominous voiceover labels her a “cold-blooded murderer”. Next week, she will finally have the chance to plead her case in court and try to convince a jury that she acted in self-defence.
Discussing Sarah’s upcoming court scenes, actress Tina O’Brien explained that her character begins to doubt herself after hearing the prosecution’s arguments.
Sarah is absolutely terrified, she has been desperate for this day to come but the reality of being brought up from the cells and standing in the dock is overwhelming. As the prosecution case is laid out, she is not sure things will go her way.
Witnesses Describe Theo's Character to Support Sarah's Defence
As Sarah attempts to prove her actions were defensive, witness testimony regarding Theo's character in the lead-up to the incident will be central to the case. Gareth addressed his involvement in the courtroom proceedings, noting that several individuals who were initially in the frame for the crime will now serve as witnesses.
Gareth stated: “Yeah, I will be! There’s quite a few of us, when it was unclear who had done it, who were potentially in the frame – and I suppose are now potentially witnesses for that evening and what happened. [They’re also] witnesses for the character that Theo was in the lead-up to it. That will form a big part of Sarah’s defence – that it was an act of self-defence.”
Coronation Street airs on weeknights at 8.30pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX, leaving viewers to wonder whether Sarah will successfully walk free from court or if the jury will find her guilty of murder.
