Yemen Flights Suspended Amid Saudi-UAE Rift

Flights were suspended at Yemen’s Aden international airport Thursday, highlighting how the growing divide between Saudi Arabia and the UAE continues to impact the conflict in Yemen.

Passengers crowded the terminal at the airport – the main international gateway for areas of Yemen not controlled by the Houthis – awaiting updates on their flights.

Yemeni sources later reported that flights between Aden and all destinations outside the UAE woudl resume, though Reuters couldn’t instantly verify this.

Air traffic halted due to a dispute over restrictions on flights to the UAE,but accounts differed on the specifics and who was responsible.

Awadh al-Subaihi, waiting for a flight to Cairo for medical treatment, said, “We are suffering, and manny othre patients and elderly people here are waiting in a arduous situation.”

The UAE supports the Southern Transitional Council (STC), which captured significant territory in southern Yemen from the internationally recognized government last month.
