A shooting at a popular Austin, Texas, bar early Sunday morning left two people dead and 14 others wounded, prompting a terrorism investigation. The shooting occurred around 2 a.m. At Buford’s Backyard Beer Garden near the University of Texas-Austin campus, as patrons were leaving the nightspot. According to Austin Police Chief Lisa Davis, the gunman drove around the block several times before opening fire on people on the patio and in front of the bar with a pistol. He then exited the vehicle and continued shooting at pedestrians.

Police confronted the shooter within minutes and fatally shot him at an intersection on 6th Street. Two victims likewise died at the scene.

A Quran was found in the shooter’s car, and he was reportedly wearing clothing described as Islamic garb. The suspect had a history of arrests in Texas and previously lived in New York City from 2000 to 2008.
