Sennheiser and smart Europe Bring Immersive Dolby Atmos to In-Car Audio with OTA Update

STUTTGART, Germany – March 11, 2026 – Sennheiser and smart Europe today announced the rollout of an over-the-air (OTA) update enabling immersive Dolby Atmos® audio playback through Amazon Music on the Sennheiser Signature Sound System in the smart #5. This marks the first time in Europe that a Sennheiser in-car sound system will feature Dolby Atmos-enabled technology, enhancing the in-car entertainment experience.

Dolby Atmos Integration for smart #5 Owners

With this update, owners of the smart #5 Premium and smart #5 BRABUS models across Europe can now enjoy tracks in Dolby Atmos from their favorite artists directly through the Amazon Music app integrated into the vehicle’s infotainment system—without requiring a smartphone connection. By selecting Dolby Atmos content within Amazon Music[1], drivers and passengers can experience the 20-speaker multidimensional Sennheiser listening experience.

Precision Tuning and Future-Proof Design

Sennheiser’s tuning engineers utilized their immersive studio in Zürich as a reference environment during development, ensuring the in-car system accurately reproduces music in Dolby Atmos as intended by the creators. The Sennheiser Signature Sound System, available in the Premium and BRABUS editions of the smart #5, was designed with a flexible architecture capable of receiving and adapting to regular, cost-free OTA updates.

Collaboration for Immersive Sound

“Bringing Dolby Atmos through Amazon Music to the smart #5 showcases what is possible when automotive, audio, and technology leaders collaborate with a shared vision for immersive sound,” said Dr. Veronique Larcher, Managing Director of Sennheiser Mobility.

Availability

The cost-free and comprehensive OTA update for the smart #5 is available for customers in European markets beginning in March 2026. The update will be rolled out in stages across all European markets.
