Renowned sculptor El Anatsui is presenting latest works in concurrent exhibitions at White Cube Hong Kong and Seoul, alongside a presentation at Art Basel Hong Kong. Exhibition Details

White Cube Seoul: March 18 – April 18, 2026

White Cube Hong Kong: March 25 – May 9, 2026

Art Basel Hong Kong: March 27 – 29, 2026

A Continued Exploration of Material and Form

Following his acclaimed installations ‘Behind the Red Moon’ at Tate Modern (2023-24) and a presentation at the Museum of Art Pudong in Shanghai (2024), Anatsui continues his exploration of material transformation and cultural narratives. He is celebrated for his inventive sculptural practice, utilizing metal, ceramic, wood, and printmaking techniques.

The Bottle Cap Sculptures

The exhibitions feature a series of new sculptures crafted from thousands of colored metal bottle caps. Anatsui introduced this material nearly three decades ago and continues to discover its aesthetic potential. Produced in his studio in Accra, Ghana, the bottle caps are intricately worked and sutured together into complex, richly textured compositions.

A New Perspective: Recto and Verso

This new series marks a shift in Anatsui’s approach, with equal emphasis placed on both sides of the sculpture. The works can be installed on or away from the wall, allowing viewers to experience them from multiple perspectives. White Cube highlights this innovative approach to installation and viewing.

El Anatsui’s Broader Exhibition Schedule

Beyond the White Cube exhibitions, Anatsui is also participating in several other events:

  • Art Basel Qatar 2026: M7 – Msheireb Cultural Forum, Doha
  • Art Basel Paris 2025: Grand Palais, Paris
  • More Than Meets the Eye: Modern and Contemporary Art from Africa: Musée Rath, Geneva, Switzerland (October 16, 2025 – November 23, 2025)
