Seoul Embraces Year-Round Festivals with “Fun Seoul” Initiative

Seoul is solidifying its position as a global cultural hub by branding itself as a 365-day festival city, offering a continuous stream of events and attractions throughout the year. This initiative, dubbed “Fun Seoul,” aims to attract both domestic and international visitors with a diverse calendar of festivals linked to the city’s seasonal characteristics.

A Year-Round Festival Flow

The Seoul Metropolitan Government (SMG) is connecting four flagship festivals – the Seoul Spring Festival, MY PACE Hangang Triathlon Festival, Seoul Autumn Festival, and Seoul Winter Festival – to create a consistent, year-round flow of events. These festivals, launched annually since 2022, are designed to reflect the unique appeal of each season.

Expanding Festival Venues and Participation

The SMG is expanding festival venues to include the Hangang River, a defining feature of Seoul, transforming the entire city into a unified festival destination. This expansion is already showing results, with participation surging from approximately 80,000 in 2022 to around 13 million in 2025. Social media engagement related to the four major festivals reached 340 million views last year.

Key Festivals and Events

  • Seoul Spring Festival (April 10 – May 5, 2026): Held in Yeouido, Ttukseom, Banpo Hangang Park, and Hangang Bus Dock, this festival has been extended to 26 days, featuring performances, cultural experiences, and tourism opportunities. Key programs include drone light shows and signature performances.
  • MY PACE Hangang Triathlon Festival (Summer): A sports event along the Hangang River.
  • Seoul Autumn Festival (Fall): Will feature over 200 performances.
  • Seoul Winter Festival (Winter): Achieved over 10 million visitors.
  • Seoul Spring Festa (April 30 – May 6, 2025): A global festival held throughout Seoul, including Seoul Plaza, Gwanghwamun Square, and Deoksugung-gil, featuring a K-pop concert with dance, lasers, and a drone show.

The “Fun Seoul” Brand

To strengthen Seoul’s global recognition as a festival city, the SMG is applying the integrated brand “Fun Seoul” across all events. This unified branding strategy aims to create a cohesive identity for Seoul’s diverse festival offerings.

Looking Ahead

With the “Fun Seoul” initiative, Seoul is poised to become a premier destination for year-round festivals, offering a vibrant and engaging experience for residents and visitors alike. The city’s commitment to expanding festival venues and enhancing event programming signals a continued investment in its cultural landscape.
