¿QWHAT IS CINEMA INTERNET?
An initiative that has just been announced by the production and distribution company A Contracorriente Films and the satellite internet firm Serenae, and which aims to bring recent cinema closer to towns where terrestrial connections to the network do not reach.
¿QWHAT OBJECTIVES DO YOU HAVE?
Contribute to breaking the double divide, digital and cultural, that still persists in some Spanish rural areas, from the conviction that satellite connectivity can not only serve to work or study, but also to bring some artistic manifestations to places where they do not reach.
¿A QWHO IS ADDRESSED?
To towns with less than 5,000 inhabitants located in rural or isolated areas without access to quality fixed broadband, that is, high-speed broadband (minimum 100 Mbps download) via terrestrial solutions such as fiber or 4G. To those, therefore, in which the only way to connect to the Internet is through satellite technology.
IN QWHAT DOES IT CONSIST?
These towns can present their candidacy for this project through the local City Council, a cultural association or a neighborhood council.
To do this, they will record a three to five minute long video in vertical format explaining what type of films could be filmed there (westerns, romantic comedies, thrillers…). Each one has their own story to tell.
The purpose of this proposal is to involve neighbors of all ages and reinforce community feeling.
The candidatures will be evaluated by a jury made up of members of Serenae and A Contracorriente Films, together with representatives of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. The jury will select five finalists who will be put to a popular vote on Serenae’s social networks. The three towns with the most votes will be the winners.
¿QWHAT PRIZES WILL THE WINNERS GET?
The winning municipality will enjoy a weekly public screening of first-run films for three months in the space that the people choose for that purpose (assembly hall, cultural center, etc.).
It will also have access to A Contracorriente Films’ DCS streaming platform, with an extensive catalog of titles available, and a Serenae satellite Internet connection, guaranteeing the necessary connectivity for both public screenings and access to that platform.
At the end of the three months, the municipality will be able to continue the project, evaluating the acquisition of the equipment and access to public aid such as those contemplated in the UNICO Rural Demand Program.
Meanwhile, the two finalist towns will also receive, for three months, unlimited access to that DCS streaming platform from A Contracorriente Films.
