Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan Drafted for Rose West at HMP New Hall

Convicted serial killer Rose West is facing severe health decline at age 72, prompting prison staff at HMP New Hall to establish a Personal Emergency Evacuation Plan because she can no longer move unaided, thesun.ie reported. Sources inside the West Yorkshire high-security prison stated that West is on her last legs and resigned to dying behind bars, unable to leave her wing without assistance in the event of a fire or other emergency.

Health Deterioration and Prison Isolation at Rivendell House

West is held on a special unit called Rivendell House, where she occupies a disabled-adapted cell. Most meals are delivered directly to her cell, and she requires prison escorts whenever she leaves for fresh air or a shower. The Daily Mail reported that the 72-year-old prisoner is nearing death and barely able to move.

Prison Discipline Follows Assault Incident Behind Bars

The health decline follows a disciplinary action earlier this year. In February, prison sources revealed that West had sexually assaulted a vulnerable young female inmate in her 20s after grooming her for weeks. Jail bosses stripped West of her privileges and confined her to her cell following the attack. She has since regained access to television, DVDs, computer games, phone calls, and a weekly canteen allowance of £20, though sources note she remains heavily restricted and interacts primarily with staff members.

Whole-Life Sentence for 1970s and 1980s Murders

West was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995 after being convicted of murdering 10 girls and women alongside her husband, Fred West. Their crimes involved victims tortured and buried at their former home at 25 Cromwell Street in Gloucester, which was subsequently demolished. Fred West died by suicide at age 53 while awaiting trial in 1995. In 2020, West legally changed her name by deed poll to Jennifer Jones while serving her whole-life order. A Prison Service spokesperson stated that West’s crimes were horrific and that she will rightly spend the rest of her life behind bars.
