Sesko Embraces Impact Role at Manchester United, Branthwaite Eyes England Call-Up
Benjamin Sesko is content with his current role at Manchester United, focusing on making an impact whenever called upon, while Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite remains hopeful of securing a spot in England’s squad for the upcoming tournament.
Sesko: Ready to Deliver, Regardless of Minutes
Manchester United forward Benjamin Sesko has emphasized his willingness to contribute to the team’s success regardless of whether he starts or comes off the bench. The 22-year-old Slovenian striker has grow a valuable asset for Michael Carrick’s side, scoring crucial goals as a substitute in recent matches.
Sesko secured a 1-0 victory for United at Everton on Monday, marking his third goal in four games after emerging from the bench. He previously scored a 96th-minute equalizer against West Ham and a 94th-minute winner against Fulham. Sky Sports reports that no player has scored more league goals as a substitute than Sesko this season.
“I’m not even thinking: ‘I have to start, I have to start.’ For me it’s just whenever the coach decides to place me there one time or not – I’m just going to be there [ready],” Sesko stated. “If I get five minutes I’m going to use them, and for me it’s about trying to enjoy and delivering for the team.”
Carrick and the coaching staff are actively working to prepare Sesko for a starting role, but the young striker is focused on maximizing his impact whenever he gets the opportunity. “We are talking of course about starting but Michael Carrick believes in me, everyone believes in me, they are getting me ready to start as soon as possible. It’s more about me showing up when it’s key, no matter how many minutes I’m getting. I’m focusing on delivering and trying to help the team secure the wins.”
Sesko acknowledges the pressure that comes with playing for a club like Manchester United but views it as a privilege. “For me the way I glance at the pressure is it’s something that if I want to be a good player it’s something that I have to have. I take it as a privilege,” he said. “It’s something that has [to be there] if you want to play at the highest level and it’s about accepting it and not really caring about it. It doesn’t really affect me.”
Carrick’s United on a Winning Streak
Under interim manager Michael Carrick, Manchester United have been in impressive form, taking 16 points from 18 available. Sesko attributes this success to the strong team spirit and the quality of the coaching staff. “The mood is really good,” Sesko said. “Everyone is working for each other and, I said many times, the coaching staff in general, not just Carrick but similarly the others he has beside him are unbelievable. They are working on individuals and you can see that on the pitch. To win so many games and secure so many points it’s made out of details and that’s how we get all these points.”
Branthwaite Still Dreaming of England Call-Up
Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite remains optimistic about his chances of being included in England’s squad for the upcoming tournament, despite limited playing time this season. The New York Times reports that Branthwaite has started only three Premier League games this season.
Having returned from a hamstring injury, Branthwaite is determined to regain momentum and demonstrate his ability to contribute to the national team. “To miss all the time I’ve missed this season has had a huge impact on the momentum I had in the last couple of years,” Branthwaite said. “Hopefully I’m past that now and I can get a good momentum going, stay injury-free and push for the World Cup squad. That was my aim at the start of the season. It’s going to be challenging. The only thing I can do is put on good performances every game and give myself the best possible chance.”
Branthwaite believes his late return from injury could be an advantage, potentially allowing him to have fresher legs compared to players who have played consistently throughout the season. “It’s always difficult to come back after such a long time,” he said. “But coming to the complete of the season, hopefully I can have fresh legs whereas players who are playing 30‑odd games throughout the season are maybe tiring. It would be a dream to play at the World Cup.”
