While ‘Chungju Man’ Kim Seon-tae (new media team leader), who led the official YouTube channel of Chungju City, North Chungcheong Province, decided to leave public office, Director Kim delivered his final greetings to subscribers through the Chungju City YouTube channel.

He said in a video titled ‘Last Greetings’ posted on the Chungju City YouTube channel on the 13th, “I would like to say goodbye to 10 years since I entered public service and 7 years of living as a Chungju man.”

Director Kim reflected, “I think it was thanks to the support of my subscribers that I was fortunate enough to achieve a small success despite having many shortcomings.”

He continued, “I would also like to thank the Chungju citizens who supported me and my colleagues at Chungju City Hall who were always considerate.”

He added, “The seven years I spent with you were the happiest times of my life,” and added, “I hope you love Chungju City a lot.” Officer Kim’s last video had the hashtag ‘#dismissal’, which means dismissal from office according to the will of the public official himself.

In a phone call with Yonhap News on this day, Director Kim announced that he would take on a new challenge. Director Kim said, “My goal was to reach 1 million subscribers, and I think I almost achieved my goal,” and added, “I submitted my resignation because I wanted to take on a new challenge.”

He went on to explain the background to his dismissal from the National Assembly, saying, “I want to continue living in Chungju and try new challenges in broadcasting or YouTube,” and that he judged it impossible to work in public office.

According to Chungju City on this day, Director Kim went on a long-term vacation after submitting his resignation to the human resources department the day before. A city official said, “The resignation letter has not been accepted yet,” and added, “Since he has expressed his intention to resign, we will process it according to the procedures.”

After joining the 9th grade civil servant in 2016, Director Kim began managing Chungju City’s official Facebook page in 2018 and became a hot topic in online communities with his witty posts with a ‘B-level’ sensibility. The following year, Chungju City’s official YouTube channel became a huge success.

He is in charge of YouTube content production, operation, and appearances, and has received favorable reviews for his YouTube channel, which is ‘unlike a civil servant’, with a sense of not missing out on the latest trends and memes and a B-level sensibility.

Chungju City YouTube, led by Director Kim, brought about a change in the promotional methods of local governments, public institutions, and public enterprises. Due to these achievements, he attracted attention by being ‘superfast promoted’ to grade 6 at the end of 2023, seven years after his appointment.

Kim Ju-mukwan appeared on terrestrial TV entertainment programs beyond Chungju City’s YouTube channel, showing off his eloquence as good as that of a celebrity. He was also active in passing on public relations know-how to the public service community, and published a book titled ‘The God of Public Relations’ containing his know-how.

As of the 13th, the number of subscribers to Chungju City’s YouTube channel exceeded 970,000, which is more than four times the population of Chungju City (approximately 210,000 people).
