Severe Storm in Castaños Downs Trees and Power Poles

Severe storms struck the municipality of Castaños, Coahuila, on Sunday afternoon, bringing high winds that downed utility poles, toppled trees, and disrupted electricity and telephone services across multiple neighborhoods, according to municipal officials. Protección Civil Municipal and the Comisión Federal de Electricidad (CFE) responded to the emergency to clear blocked roadways and repair damaged infrastructure.

The severe weather caused localized damage throughout the area, though local authorities confirmed no injuries were reported from the storm. Municipal work crews deployed to secure damaged zones and restore essential utilities to affected residents.

Infrastructure Damage and Neighborhood Impacts

The most significant structural damage occurred along calle Nicolás Bravo, situated between Emilio Carranza and Ramón Corona in the colonia Independencia, directly adjacent to the Panteón Municipal del Carmen, according to municipal reports. At that location, high winds caused a large pine tree to collapse, bringing down a concrete utility pole operated by the CFE alongside wooden poles supporting local telephone lines.

The falling infrastructure and debris blocked local traffic routes and created immediate safety hazards for residents. Additional wind damage impacted the perimeter wall of a private residential property, though Protección Civil confirmed that the main residential structures in the neighborhood sustained no structural compromise.

Emergency Response and Service Restoration

Protección Civil Municipal personnel deployed to the colonia Independencia to secure the area, establishing safety perimeters and utilizing chainsaws to section the fallen pine tree. These efforts cleared the blocked roadway and eliminated immediate hazards to the public.

Simultaneously, CFE repair crews mobilized along calle Ferrocarril near the impacted zone to mend broken lines and replace damaged poles. Utility workers prioritized restoring electrical and telecommunication services to the neighborhoods left in the dark by the sudden storm.

Public Safety Recommendations

Following the severe weather event, municipal authorities issued specific safety guidance for local residents navigating the aftermath. Officials urged the public to completely avoid cordoned-off work zones where crews remain active.

Authorities also warned residents to exercise extreme caution regarding downed power lines that may remain energized on the ground.
