SF Giants’ Matt Chapman Out for Season After Abdominal Surgery

San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Chapman will undergo season-ending abdominal surgery on Tuesday, according to statements reported by the Associated Press and the San Francisco Chronicle. Chapman traveled to Philadelphia on Monday to be evaluated by Dr. William C. Giants manager Tony Vitello told the Associated Press on Monday that the team planned to expedite the procedure. Chapman, 33, signed a six-year, $151 million contract in September 2024 that ties him to San Francisco through 2030, as reported by the Associated Press. In related roster developments reported by the Associated Press, catcher Daniel Susac underwent an MRI that revealed a fractured patella in his left knee. Susac sustained the injury during Sunday’s game against Detroit when he struck his knee with a foul ball, forcing him to leave the field in a cart. Vitello told the Associated Press that the 25-year-old acquisition, selected in the Rule 5 Draft from the Athletics by the Twins last December before being traded to the Giants, faces an extended absence while team physicians evaluate treatment steps.
