Shangrao Converts Ecology Into Economic Gains Through Birds, Pomelos, and Beef Chains

Shangrao in China’s Jiangxi province generated over 500 million yuan in annual output value from newly launched food supply chain projects by 2025, according to a recent network-themed publicity tour reported by qidian.sxtvs.com. The reporting details how Jiangxi transforms its ecological preservation efforts into localized economic development through three specific pillars: a protected bird species in Wuyuan County, a centuries-old pomelo variety in Guangfeng District, and an expanding meat processing supply chain.

Wuyuan County Protects Rare Birds While Growing Organic Tea and Tourism

In Shimen Village, located 3 kilometers from the Wuyuan County seat, local officials implemented a strict long-term ban on logging natural broad-leaved forests to safeguard local ecology, qidian.sxtvs.com reported. The county established 193 natural protection communities, placing 654,000 mou of mountain forest under regular ecological care and maintaining forest coverage above 83 percent.

These conservation measures directly boosted local tourism and agriculture. The number of village guesthouses and farmstay operations climbed from 2 to 47, while local villagers working as bamboo raft operators saw steady monthly income gains. Retired teacher and bird protector Yu Wangjin noted that 506 mou of standardized ecological tea fields operate without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, exporting organic green tea to Europe and Africa. The blue-crowned laughingthrush, an endangered species and ecological indicator bird that disappeared for nearly 80 years before reappearing in 2000, grew in population from roughly 40 to over 600 individuals following two decades of habitat protection.

Guangfeng District Multiplies Pomelo Yields Through Scientific Cultivation

In Guangfeng District’s Dazuang Town, a 200-year-old Majiazou pomelo mother tree survived two lightning strikes to become the genetic source for the region’s signature fruit. Wu Fang芳, director of a local science and technology research center, stated that the district features a subtropical monsoon climate with approximately 1,881 annual sunshine hours and red acidic soil derived from the Wuyishan mountain foothills, which aids root development.

Through selective breeding, hand-pollination experiments, and precise water-fertilizer management, the average yield per mou jumped from 3,000 catties to over 5,000 catties, while sugar content rose by more than 1 degree, according to qidian.sxtvs.com. Modern digital platforms and Internet of Things monitoring now enable automated water and fertilizer delivery across approximately 200,000 mou of Majiazou pomelo cultivation, supporting over 50,000 farming households with fresh fruit and 60 deep-processed products including juice, dried fruit, and essential oils.

Linchuang Catering Group Expands Cold-Chain Logistics Across Two Hundred Cities

Industrial supply chains in Guangfeng District now extend far beyond raw fruit production. Jiangxi Linchuang Catering Group processes previously discarded pomelo peels into novel seasonings such as salad dressings and barbecue sauces designed to complement fried foods, according to company chairman Zhou Shaolin.

The enterprise also operates a cold-chain facility featuring minus-18-degree storage and 10-degree freshness-locking workshops where automated lines prepare steaks for distribution. Zhou Shaolin noted that the company established heavy upstream supply chain assets eight years ago to control product quality and lower costs. The newly operational Baicheng Food project in Guangfeng District generates over 500 million yuan in annual output value, supporting local agricultural processing networks while supplying flagship restaurant brands operating across 25 provinces and more than 200 cities.
