Matt Doherty Joins Sheffield United on One-Year Deal

Republic of Ireland international defender Matt Doherty has joined Sheffield United on an initial one-year contract, with the club holding an option to extend the agreement by a further year. The 34-year-old arrives at Bramall Lane following his departure from Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier this summer, where he accumulated nearly 400 appearances across two separate spells. In addition to the men’s team recruitment, Sheffield United has bolstered its women’s side with the signing of 22-year-old defender Maria Reynolds from Shamrock Rovers. Reynolds has signed a two-year deal with the club, which includes an option for an additional year.

The move for the Republic of Ireland international is reported to be a record transfer fee for a player from the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division. Reynolds, who received a senior international call-up from manager Carla Ward for the World Cup qualifiers against Poland in April, joins former Shamrock Rovers teammate Joy Ralph at the club.
