Ben Shelton rallied from a set down and saved three championship points to defeat top-seeded Taylor Fritz 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 on Sunday at the Nexo Dallas Open, capturing his fourth ATP Tour title . The victory marks Shelton’s first title of the season and his second ATP 500 trophy.

A Comeback for the Ages

The match, played at the sold-out Ford Center in Frisco, Texas, saw Fritz take an early lead, winning the first set 6-3. However, Shelton responded strongly, claiming the second set with a score of 6-3. The deciding set was a tense affair, reaching 5-5 before Shelton secured a crucial break to take a 6-5 lead.

Facing defeat, Shelton found himself down 15-40 whereas serving at 4-5 in the final set. He impressively saved three championship points, showcasing composure under pressure. A relentless smash canceled the first opportunity for Fritz, followed by a well-placed forehand into the corner to take the lead. Fritz earned a third match point, but Shelton erased it and held serve to level the set at 5-5 .

Shelton capitalized on a double fault from Fritz, earning three break points at 0-40 in the next game. He converted the break to go ahead 6-5 and then closed out the match, winning 7-5 and securing the championship in an hour and 52 minutes .
