Shiffrin Secures Sixth Overall World Cup Title, Aicher Falls Short

Mikaela Shiffrin of the United States clinched her sixth overall Alpine Skiing World Cup title on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, despite a challenging performance in the final giant slalom race in Hafjell, Norway. This victory ties Shiffrin with Annemarie Moser-Pröll for the most women’s overall titles in World Cup history.

Race Recap: Hafjell Giant Slalom

Shiffrin finished 11th in the giant slalom, while her closest competitor, Emma Aicher of Germany, placed 12th. Valerie Grenier of Canada won the race, finishing 0.46 seconds ahead of Mina Holtmann of Norway. Austria’s Julia Scheib secured third place, 0.14 seconds behind Grenier.

Shiffrin’s Path to Victory

Heading into the final race, Shiffrin held an 85-point lead over Aicher. Even a 17th-place finish would have been sufficient for Shiffrin to secure the overall title, provided Aicher did not win the giant slalom. Aicher needed a victory to have any chance of overtaking Shiffrin in the standings. Despite a strong first run that placed her third, Aicher faltered in her second run, ultimately finishing 12th.

Final Standings

Shiffrin finished the World Cup season with 1,410 points, while Aicher accumulated 1,323 points. Camille Rast of Switzerland finished third overall with 1,049 points.

Shiffrin’s Dominance

This marks Shiffrin’s sixth overall World Cup title, adding to her previous wins from 2017 to 2019, as well as in 2022, and 2023. She also secured her ninth slalom victory of the season on Tuesday in Kvitfjell, Norway, winning by a margin of 1.32 seconds over Wendy Holdener. This win brought her career total to 110 World Cup victories.

Looking Ahead

With this historic sixth title, Mikaela Shiffrin continues to cement her legacy as one of the greatest alpine skiers of all time. The season-ending race highlighted the competitive spirit of the sport, with Emma Aicher demonstrating her potential as a rising star.
