Shin Bet to Secure Yashar Chairman Gadi Eisenkot Starting Sunday
The Shin Bet security agency will directly oversee the personal security detail for Yashar party chairman Gadi Eisenkot starting Sunday morning, according to an announcement from the party. The decision concludes a months-long battle over state-provided protection for political party leaders who do not currently hold public office.
Unit 730 Directs Private Security Detail
Beginning Sunday morning, a private security company will protect Eisenkot under the direct instruction and operational oversight of Unit 730 of the Shin Bet, The Jerusalem Post reported. The arrangement follows an authorization by the Ministerial Committee for Shin Bet Affairs, which empowered Shin Bet chief David Zini to determine security protocols for non-incumbent political party leaders. That authorization remains active until the next Knesset is sworn in.

Shin Bet Reviews Security for Yashar Chairman
The assignment of state-backed protection comes after a prolonged review process. In August, Shin Bet chief David Zini initially ruled that Eisenkot did not meet the necessary criteria to qualify for elite Unit 730 protection. However, following updated intelligence and threat assessments reviewed in September, the Advisory Committee for Personal Security recommended that the Shin Bet oversee the Yashar chairman’s security.
Despite Zini’s subsequent approval, Yashar informed The Jerusalem Post in September that no security detail had yet been assigned. The Shin Bet later clarified that Zini had approved a broader framework of security measures for party leaders. This framework includes intelligence oversight and support units, authorization for party-hired security teams to carry weapons, operational coordination between the Shin Bet and private guards, and periodic threat assessments conducted for each party leader.
