Shinhan Card has launched a new co-branded credit card (PLCC) with KakaoBank on August 21, 2026, targeting digital-native users with aggressive online and offline discount structures, according to official company announcements reported by Energy Economy News.
KakaoBank and Shinhan Card Partnership Details
The newly introduced “KakaoBank Chaktak Shinhan Card” marks the second collaboration between Shinhan Card and South Korea’s top internet-only bank, following last year’s joint card release, as detailed by Womentimes. The card integrates its management directly into the KakaoBank mobile application to streamline customer onboarding. Online transactions made via simple-payment gateways—including Kakao Pay, Naver Pay, and Shinhan SOL Pay—qualify for a 10% discount, capped at 5,000 won per transaction.
Cardholders subscribing to specific generative AI platforms and digital memberships also receive targeted price cuts. According to Shinhan Card’s release, regular subscriptions billed through official websites for ChatGPT and Claude receive a 10% discount, while Naver Plus and Coupang Wow memberships are discounted by up to 50%. Offline benefits target everyday spending categories, offering 10% savings at major supermarkets like E-Mart and Traders Wholesale Club, health and beauty retailers like Olive Young and Daiso, and domestic coffee chains.
Discount Limits and Promotional Rewards
Monthly discount caps operate independently for online and offline sectors based on the previous month’s total spending. Users with monthly expenditures between 500,000 won and 1 million won receive up to 10,000 won in discounts for each category. For spending exceeding 1 million won, the individual caps rise to 25,000 won per sector, allowing a combined monthly maximum savings of 50,000 won.
To incentivize adoption, Shinhan Card and KakaoBank structured a promotional event offering up to 700,000 won in total benefits. Applicants who apply through the official promotional page by October 31, 2026, and use the card are entered into a drawing where 400 participants can win up to 500,000 won in cash back. Additionally, customers who apply by the end of August and spend at least 200,000 won by the end of September receive an automatic 150,000 won statement credit, with an extra 50,000 won available for spending 500,000 won or more between October and November.
Card Design and Fees
The physical card features Kakao Friends’ popular character, Chunshik, across three distinct designs: Warp Chunshik, Meow Chunshik, and Steel Chunshik. The Steel Chunshik option utilizes a metal plate material carrying an additional issuance fee of 80,000 won. Standard annual fees are set at 20,000 won for domestic-only use and 23,000 won for international Mastercard compatibility.
