Liverpool FC have united with Cadbury to support Alzheimer’s research UK’s mission to find a cure for dementia.
The collaboration focuses on raising awareness and providing funding to combat the syndrome, which is currently the leading cause of death in the UK.
As part of the initiative, Cadbury has provided training from Alzheimer’s Research UK to all Anfield-based club staff. The aim is to ensure the Reds’ home becomes a more dementia-friendly venue for visitors.
Almost one million people in the UK are currently living with dementia, including more than 60,000 in the North West.
To highlight the issue, the campaign features a video involving local fan Ste, who was diagnosed with early-onset dementia in 2020, alongside club legends.
Ste, a lifelong Liverpool supporter, said, “The big thing is waking up one morning and not knowing who you are. But I have to stay positive. I have to. It’s vital to be able to talk about it and let other people know they’re not on their own.”
John Aldridge, Chair of Forever Reds, said, “We know some players close to our heart who have passed away and had the same symptoms. And some players now have the same symptoms as you, who are very well known. There’s going to be a cure down the line somewhere – we don’t know when.”
Phil Thompson, former Liverpool FC captain, added, “It touches everybody’s family. it has become more relevant in our lives. So, I think it’s vital.”
