Shot in Camper: Three Wanted After Petrohan Deaths in Vrachan Balkan

The three wanted in the case “Petrohan” were found dead in a camper in Vratsa Balkan. They were found shot, with no indication that the shooting came from outside, but inside the vehicle.

This became clear during a briefing of the Ministry of the Interior on Sunday. Investigators did not release the names of the three. They had previously not officially released the names of the people they said were wanted.

The news of the three bodies found comes after the bodies of three other men were found earlier on Monday in the Petrohan hut area. They were part of an association dealing with environmental protection and protected areas.

On Sunday, the director of the General Directorate of the National Police Zachary Vaskov said that the three found in a camper in Vracanski Balkan were connected to the same association. However, he did not say whether the unofficial information in the media is true, that it is about the founder of the organization Ivaylo Kalushev, 23-year-old Nikolay Zlatkov and a 15-year-old boy.

He said only that “the people who have been found are the persons we are looking for”.

According to him, the police reached them after a report from a shepherd who has a summer pen in the area and was passing by to look at it.

“It was established that there was a shooting inside the vehicle. We continue to work on all possible versions – murder, suicide,” Vaskov added, adding that “the version of a closed society with elements of a sect is still not excluded.”

So far, no one from the authorities has said exactly what this is supposed to mean and how it is related to what happened.

For a week now, neither the police nor the prosecutor’s office have announced the results of the investigation. It remains unclear whether the incident near Petrokhan, which was reported on Monday, was a murder or suicide.

This prompted criticism that investigators were acting inadequately and haphazardly. In this regard, Vaskov said only that “the Ministry of the Interior is doing its job and tolerates criticism” and repeated several times that it is a “crime without analogues in our country”.
