Former Kosovo Minister’s Father Dies After COVID-19 Diagnosis
Qamil Bytyqi, the father of former Kosovo Minister of Education, Science and Technology Shyqyri Bytyqi, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2020, after contracting COVID-19.
Illness and Passing
According to reports from Indeksonline, Bytyqi had been battling an underlying illness and subsequently tested positive for the COVID-19 virus. He was 82 years old at the time of his death.
Funeral Restrictions
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and related public health regulations implemented by Kosovo’s state institutions, the funeral was limited to immediate family members. Indeksonline reported that Shyqyri Bytyqi announced the funeral would be held at 5:00 p.m. In the cemetery of Arllat village, Bytyq district.
Family Impact of COVID-19
The Bytyqi family experienced the impact of COVID-19 firsthand. In April 2020, four members of the Bytyqi family from Gjakova recovered from the virus, including a 73-year-old relative, as reported by Revista Kosovarja and Gazeta Express. The family shared their challenging experience battling the virus in an interview with the “#Gjesi” program.
