Royal Society of Chemistry Expands Partnership with Silverchair to Enhance Scholarly Access

The Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) is expanding its collaboration with Silverchair, a leading platform partner for scholarly and professional publishers, to host the organization’s journals portfolio on the Silverchair Platform. This builds upon an existing relationship established in 2023 when RSC launched its extensive book program on the platform.

Strengthening Scholarly Communication

The move will see over 50 journals migrate to the Silverchair Platform, aiming to bolster the discoverability and dissemination of crucial scientific knowledge. Founded in 1841, the RSC is a global hub for chemical scientists, supporting researchers and publishing a comprehensive portfolio of journals.

Enhanced User Experience and Interoperability

According to the partners, the migration is intended to strengthen interoperability and discoverability through enhanced features and a modern user experience. The new RSC site will aim to improve how researchers interact with the content, offering better functionality and increased accessibility.

Statements from Leadership

“The Royal Society of Chemistry has built a remarkable legacy over nearly two centuries of supporting the chemistry community,” said Will Schweitzer, CEO of Silverchair. “We’re honoured to support their continued evolution and growth as they work toward ambitious goals for expanding access to chemical knowledge. This partnership reflects our shared commitment to advancing scholarly communication through technology that serves both publishers and researchers.”

Dr. Emma Wilson, Royal Society of Chemistry Director of Publishing, added: “This has been an exciting opportunity for us to work with the Silverchair team, to really delve into the user experience for our international researcher community and ensure that their groundbreaking work is discoverable by the largest possible audience.” She further stated the RSC is proud to publish cutting-edge chemistry that creates global impact, improving health, environment, and lifestyles worldwide.

Previous Collaboration with Silverchair

Silverchair has been RSC’s books platform since 2023, delivering an immediate discoverability boost, flexible product models, and a modern design to RSC’s more than 2800 books. The RSC sought a partner whose technology provided the flexibility to offer new digital products and sales models while adhering to high industry standards.
