Singapore and Brazil have signed a formal Memorandum of Understanding to establish a bilateral Green and Digital Shipping Corridor, aiming to accelerate maritime decarbonisation and operational efficiency between the two nations. According to the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, the agreement was finalized by Singapore’s Minister for Transport, Jeffrey Siow, and Brazil’s Minister of Ports and Airports, Tomé Franca.
Combining Renewable Energy with Bunkering Capabilities
The newly established corridor pairs Brazil’s extensive renewable energy resources and production capabilities with Singapore’s position as a major global bunkering port. Meanwhile, Singapore provides a established global hub port and innovation ecosystem to support alternative marine fuel supply chains.
Industry collaboration will form a core component of the agreement. Both governments intend to work alongside industry stakeholders to advance research, development, and the eventual adoption of emerging maritime technologies and solutions designed to cut emissions across international shipping routes.
