The expected improved Siri voice assistant is waiting for another delay. And for the umpteenth time in the last three years. It was assumed that thanks to the cooperation with AI Gemini from Google, Apple will manage to get a personalized Siri into the iOS 26.4 system. It was this version that Apple began testing in February, but according to Bloomberg ran into serious problemsdue to which the deployment of the new Siri is shifting. Siri could thus only appear in version iOS 26.5, but even with it there is actually no guarantee that everything will finally run without errors.
Apple consistently deletes any mention of an improved Siri. He removed the September 2024 ad promoting the iPhone 16 Pro feature from his YouTube channel last March
The improved Siri looked great at the WWDC 2024 developer conference, but it was just a demo that Apple still had a lot to work on. The feature was supposed to be available in the spring of 2025, after which Apple announced that it needed “a little more time” and pushed it back another year. Now it’s clear that it won’t just make its way into iPhones. In addition, the problem is not at all trivial – during testing it turns out that the new Siri sometimes cannot process properly or to user queries reacts too slowly. At the same time, the correctness and speed of answers are the most important things we expect from similar modern AI assistants.
The new Siri still has major flaws
Siri also sometimes mistakenly uses ChatGPT for information it should be able to process on its own using Google’s Gemini model. As if hers the core didn’t knowwhich service to contact for specific questions. According to behind-the-scenes sources, Apple developers are using iOS 26.5 for further testing, which includes a switch for “Personalized Siri.” This suggests that the improved Siri will be delayed until at least this version, which should be released around mid-May.
However, the scenario according to which Apple will gradually make long-developed functions available is also very real. According to some sources, full functionality could only be achieved in the September version of iOS 27. In that version, advanced chatbots should be fully integrated directly into the operating system – considering how Apple is “doing well” with the development of the new Siri, we would definitely not put our hands in the fire for it.
The main news improved by Siri:
Apple has set ambitious goals with the new Siri. It should be able to parse the screen content (function Onscreen Awareness), respond to contextual queries (function Personal Context) and perform actions across different applications (function App Intents). You will be able to ask her: “Add this person to contacts” or “Send the email I wrote to Jirka”.
Unfortunately, it seems that the development of these features is much more difficult than originally anticipated.
According to sources, the situation is still very fluid. Apple is trying to avoid further delays and the target remains “spring 2026”. But if Siri doesn’t work as it should in a few months, another delay will be inevitable. Additionally, Apple plans to add some “painful” ones to iOS 26.4. Instead of the beefed-up Siri, it should add image generation and web summaries. But will it be enough after such a long development?
What Siri should be able to do one day (WWDC 2024):
With any other brand on the mobile market, the problems could be understood, but with Apple, which can point the finger at practically any expert and specialist, this is very surprising.
