Six Feet Under Announces New Album “Next to Die” and North American Tour
American death metal pioneers Six Feet Under will release their fifteenth full-length album, Next to Die, on April 24th through Metal Blade Records. [1] The album follows 2024’s Killing For Revenge and marks the third record created together by vocalist Chris Barnes and guitarist Jack Owen since their reunion in 2017. [1]
A Dualistic Approach: Death and Groove
Next to Die is described as a new creative high for the band, with its dozen songs representing a unique approach. Guitarist Jack Owen explained that the album evolved from a purely aggressive death metal sound to incorporate groovier elements reminiscent of Six Feet Under’s earlier work. [2] The resulting album is essentially divided into two sides – “Death” and “Groove” – aiming to satisfy both the band’s artistic vision and the diverse preferences of their fanbase. [2]

Lyrical Themes and Production
Barnes and Owen collaborated on the album, with Barnes handling all the lyrics. [2] They adopted a non-prescriptive approach to lyrical themes, each writing based on their individual feelings and interests. [2]
The album was produced by Owen and Barnes, and mixed and mastered by Mark Lewis at MRL Studios in Nashville, Tennessee. [2] Barnes recorded his vocals at Criteria Recording Studios in Miami, a location he has frequently used throughout his career with Six Feet Under. [2]
Tour Dates
Six Feet Under will embark on a North American headlining tour beginning July 8th in Detroit, Michigan, and concluding August 11th in Chicago, Illinois. [2] They will be supported by Kataklysm and Wormhole. [2] Presales begin March 12th with the password “GRAVE,” and the general on-sale date is March 13th. [2] The band will similarly be touring Europe in June with Embryonic Autopsy. [2]
Barnes expressed his excitement for the tour, stating, “July and August are gonna get ultra brutal on our headlining tour of North America… You do not want to miss these shows!” [2]
Six Feet Under was initially formed as a side project by Chris Barnes during his time with Cannibal Corpse and became his primary focus in 1995. [3] [2]
