Magdalena Eggerová Injury Ends Season, Olympic Dreams Dashed
Zauchensee, Austria – January 10, 2026 – Austrian downhill skier Magdalena Eggerová has suffered a severe knee injury during a World Cup downhill race in Zauchensee, prematurely ending her season and ruling her out of contention for the upcoming February Olympics. The 24-year-old sustained a tear to her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), a partial tear of the lateral ligament, and meniscus damage to her right knee following a fall on Saturday.

The Austrian Skiing Association (ÖSV) confirmed that Eggerová will undergo surgery at a clinic in Innsbruck. the injury marks a devastating setback for the rising star, who had enjoyed a breakthrough season prior to the accident. She recently achieved her first World Cup podium finish,securing second place in St. Moritz in December, finishing behind American skiing legend Lindsey Vonn.
Eggerová was considered a strong contender for the Olympic team, currently ranking as the second-highest rated Austrian downhill skier. Her absence will be keenly felt by the Austrian team.
“We are deeply saddened by Magdalena’s injury,” stated Roland Assinger, head coach of the Austrian downhill skiers, according to APA. “She has been performing exceptionally well and demonstrating significant potential. This is a particularly arduous blow with the olympics just around the corner.”
The timeline for Eggerová’s recovery remains uncertain, but a torn ACL typically requires several months of rehabilitation.
