Connor McDavid Crowned MVP of 2026 Milan Winter Olympics
Connor McDavid, the Canadian superstar, has been named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. The Olympic Committee announced the honor, recognizing McDavid’s exceptional performance throughout the tournament.
McDavid’s Dominant Performance
McDavid emulated Juraj Slafkovský, who was the MVP at Beijing 2022 and also secured a spot on the All-Star Team. He led the tournament with 13 points, achieved through 2 goals and 11 assists in 6 games. This performance set a new record for the most points scored in an Olympic hockey tournament with NHL players.
Slafkovský’s Strong Showing
Juraj Slafkovský of Slovakia also had a remarkable tournament, finishing tied with Celebrini for second in scoring with 8 points (4 goals and 4 assists). Slafkovský’s performance was particularly impressive given Slovakia’s roster lacked the established superstars found on Team Canada.
All-Star Team Recognition
In addition to being named MVP, McDavid also received the prize for the best striker of the tournament. He was joined on the All-Star Team by Slafkovský and Macklin Celebrini. The defensive pairings on the All-Star Team included American Quinn Hughes and Cale Makar, while American Connor Hellebuyck was recognized as the best goalkeeper.
Slafkovský’s Leadership Role
Slafkovský, who was selected first overall in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, demonstrated leadership for the Slovak national team, averaging 24 shifts and 20 minutes of ice time per game – both leading all Slovak forwards. He announced his ambition to capture on a leadership role before the tournament began, and Slovakia ultimately captured the top spot in Group B.
