Snap prepares Specs for Public Launch Amidst Growing XR Competition

Snap Inc. is gearing up to launch it’s augmented reality (AR) glasses, dubbed Specs, later this year. The company is restructuring its AR efforts by establishing Specs Inc.as a wholly-owned subsidiary, a move designed to foster operational focus, enable new partnerships, and attract potential investment. 9to5Google first reported on the news.

According to Snap, this restructuring will also allow for clearer valuation of the business as it prepares for public release.”Establishing Specs Inc. as a wholly-owned subsidiary provides greater operational focus and alignment, enables new partnerships and capital adaptability including the potential for minority investment, allows us to grow a distinct brand, and supports clearer valuation of the business as we work towards the public launch of Specs later this year,” Snap stated.

Specs smartglasses utilize see-through lenses to overlay digital objects onto the real world, offering a more immersive experience than traditional screens. Users can interact wiht these digital elements using hand and voice controls. Developers have been actively building applications for Specs,exploring use cases in learning,gaming,and productivity.Early advancement has been showcased on Reddit.

Competition Heats Up with Android XR and Samsung
