‘Jersey Shore’ Star Snooki Reveals Stage 1 Cervical Cancer Diagnosis, Urges Pap Smear Screenings
Florham Park, N.J. — Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi, known for her role on the MTV reality indicate “Jersey Shore,” announced Friday that she has been diagnosed with stage 1 cervical cancer. Polizzi shared the news in a TikTok video, emphasizing the importance of regular Pap smears.
“Obviously not the news that I was hoping for,” she said in the video, filmed between medical appointments. “But also not the worst news, just because they caught it so early, thank freaking God.”
Early Detection and Treatment
Polizzi explained that she had been experiencing abnormal Pap smear results for three to four years prior to her diagnosis [1]. A cone biopsy, a procedure to remove a cone-shaped piece of cervical tissue for examination, revealed adenocarcinoma, a type of cervical cancer.
She is scheduled to undergo a PET scan to determine if the cancer has spread and is likely to have a hysterectomy to remove her uterus and cervix [2]. Despite the challenging diagnosis, Polizzi remains optimistic, noting that the cancer was caught early and is curable.
Advocating for Preventative Screening
Polizzi used her platform to strongly encourage her followers to prioritize regular Pap smear screenings. “That’s why I’m literally telling you guys to get your Pap smears done,” she stated. “I’m 38 years old… and now look at me.” She admitted to previously delaying screenings due to fear and discomfort, but stressed the importance of overcoming those barriers.
Cervical Cancer Statistics and Prevention
According to the American Cancer Society, over 13,000 cervical cancer cases are diagnosed in the United States each year [1]. However, the death rate from cervical cancer has decreased by more than half since the mid-1970s due to increased screening and preventative measures.
Polizzi’s Career and Personal Life
Nicole Polizzi rose to fame as “Snooki” on “Jersey Shore,” which premiered on MTV in 2009. She continued to appear in spin-off shows, including “Snooki & JWoww” and “Jersey Shore: Family Vacation.” She has been married for 11 years and has three children [2].
“So 2026 is not panning out how I wanted it to,” Polizzi acknowledged, but maintained a positive outlook.
