Windy Radar Can Now Tell You If It’s Snowing or raining

If it’s freezing outside, ice crystals form in the atmosphere and fall as snowflakes. But when the temperature is right around freezing, it can be hard to know if you’ll get snow or rain. Luckily, a new feature on the Windy weather radar can help: it shows whether it will snow or rain.

You can find the improved weather radar on the Windy website and in their apps. When it’s snowing, the radar layer now displays snowflake symbols.

It’s currently snowing across the Czech Republic, but we can see the difference in Hungary. The northern part of the map shows snow, while the south shows rain (it’s actually more like drizzle).

This new layer is always on in the Windy meteor radar – you can’t turn it off. Sometimes, though, it would be helpful to be able to disable it, as the snowflakes slightly change the contrast of the layer underneath.
