Social Brigades Deliver Over 1,000 Medical Services Across Ecuador

The Social Brigades for the New Ecuador, a government initiative, have provided 1,026 medical services across the country this weekend, November 22nd and 23rd, according too the Ministry of Public Health (MSP).

The brigades, which will continue operating until December, aim to connect residents with information about state services.Health-focused efforts include disease prevention, health promotion, support for breastfeeding mothers, and programs addressing drug use, teenage pregnancy, and child malnutrition. Services offered encompass family and general medicine, vaccinations, pediatrics, dentistry, and psychological support.

This weekend’s deployments included Parque Luis A. Martínez in Ambato (Tungurahua), Las vegas de Portoviejo Park in Manabí, Parador Turístico Huaquillas in El Oro, the Tarqui parish in guayaquil, and unasur Urban Park in Quito. On Sunday, brigades visited the Jambelí parish in Sucumbíos and the Pucará Cantonal Coliseum in Azuay.

Residents expressed their appreciation for the accessible care. Susana Moya of Ambato praised the timely medical attention and advice on physical activity and healthy eating. Selena Valencia of Huaquillas emphasized the importance of government support, stating that the MSP staff provided quality services when she was unable to visit a health center during the week.

Yesenia Tobar, receiving care at the Quito fair, highlighted the convenience of the Ministry reaching local neighborhoods, noting that she received consistent prenatal care and ongoing check-ups for her baby. She also learned about the importance of breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and vaccination.
