Soekarno-Hatta Airport Prepares for Eid al-Fitr Travel Surge

Jakarta, Indonesia – Soekarno-Hatta International Airport is ramping up operations in anticipation of the Eid al-Fitr travel season, with state-owned airport operator InJourney Airports deploying 7,832 personnel to manage the expected surge in passengers. The preparations aim to ensure smooth operations and maintain service quality during the holiday period.

Operational Readiness and Infrastructure

Heru Karyadi, General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, stated that around 2,197 personnel will be on duty during each operational shift to support airport operations and service standards . Comprehensive preparations have been made across operational aspects, infrastructure, passenger service facilities and personnel readiness.

The airport has confirmed the full operational status of its key infrastructure, including three runways, 175 aircraft parking stands, and 115 avio-bridges, to accommodate increased aircraft movements . Passenger facilities have also been reinforced with sufficient baggage and cabin trolleys, and optimized inter-terminal transportation services, including the Skytrain and shuttle buses, to facilitate passenger mobility within the airport complex.

Safety and Security Measures

To maintain operational reliability, Soekarno-Hatta Airport has conducted electrical testing, including load tests on generators, to ensure the optimal functioning of backup power systems in case of main power disruptions .

Flight safety and security are also prioritized through random vehicle checks in the terminal area to ensure safe and controlled operational activities. Ground transportation services have been strengthened with increased capacity for intermodal shuttle buses, AJAP shuttles, online taxis, and regular taxis .

Contingency Planning and Coordination

As a mitigation measure against potential emergencies or extreme weather conditions, the airport manager has implemented contingency plans, including increased drainage system capacity, real-time water level monitoring devices, and normalization of water channels throughout the airport area .

Heru Karyadi emphasized the importance of coordination and synergy with all airport stakeholders to ensure smooth operations throughout the Eid al-Fitr 2026 travel period .

Soekarno-Hatta Airport Performance

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport recorded a positive performance during the 2025/2026 Nataru (Christmas and New Year) period, serving 3.52 million passengers, a 1.3% increase compared to the same period in 2024 . Aircraft movements reached 23.3 thousand flights, a 1.6% increase year-on-year. Throughout 2025, the airport saw a total passenger movement of 54.95 million passengers, up 0.3% from 2024 .

InJourney Airports, headquartered at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, handles a total of 172 million passengers annually, ranking as the fifth-largest airport operator globally .
