Sony Pictures has updated its theatrical release calendar with major schedule shifts for 2027 and 2028, featuring Ridley Scott’s upcoming adaptation of Treasure Island starring Hugh Jackman, the comedy sequel 24 Jump Street, and a shift for the video game adaptation Helldivers.
Treasure Island and 24 Jump Street Land Late 2027 Dates
Sony has slated Ridley Scott’s Treasure Island for a theatrical release on Nov. 11, 2027, according to studio announcements. Hugh Jackman stars as the pirate Long John Silver in this feature adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel, working from a script penned by Jack Thorne. The film also stars Owen Cooper and Hugh Grant, following a young boy who uncovers a map to a buried fortune and faces off against Silver on a perilous sea voyage, as detailed in reports from Variety and TheWrap.
Scott directs the project and produces alongside Michael Pruss for the Scott Free banner, while Thorne serves as an executive producer. Shortly after that release, the comedy sequel 24 Jump Street will launch theatrically on Dec. 10, 2027. Franchise stars Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, and Ice Cube return for the third installment, which is produced by Phil Lord, Chris Miller, Neal H. Moritz, Tatum, and Hill. Rodney Rothman directs from a script he wrote alongside Hill and Meghan Malloy.
Helldivers Shifts to Summer 2028 Alongside Grandgear
Justin Lin’s film Helldivers has moved from its original November 10, 2027 date to June 9, 2028. Based on the PlayStation video game series, the Sony and PlayStation Productions feature stars Alan Ritchson—stepping into the project following the departure of Jason Momoa—as part of an elite unit of soldiers battling alien creatures.
Meanwhile, Takashi Yamazaki’s English-language directorial debut Grandgear moved up one month to land on Jan. 14, 2028, timing its arrival for the MLK weekend. Abrams and Glen Zipper.
The Surgeon and Narcs Round Out the Slate
Roshan Sethi’s thriller The Surgeon is scheduled to open in theaters on April 2, 2027, following its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Hailing from Thunder Road and Tango, the film stars Michelle Yeoh as a skilled doctor who is abducted and forced to operate on a mysterious patient, turning her surgical expertise against her captors.
Additionally, John Phillips will make his feature directorial debut with the comedy Narcs on Aug. 20, 2027. Starring Mason Thames and Ella Bright, the film features a screenplay written by Jordan Shipley and Justin Shipley, with a subsequent rewrite by Phillips and Gene Stupnitsky.
