My Journey with Hearing Loss and the Promise of Self-Adjusting hearing Aids

About 10 years ago,I was diagnosed with Meniere’s disease,which led to low-pitched hearing loss in my left ear. The brain struggles to process sound directionally and filter out background noise when relying on only one ear.

The Cost of Customary Hearing Aids

Traditional hearing aids are a ample investment. The Signia hearing aid I purchased seven years ago cost 3.5 million won – a important financial burden. Due to the expense, I opted for a single-aid solution, but even this requires regular visits to an audiologist for adjustments, adding to the ongoing cost and inconvenience.

The Appeal of FDA-Approved Self-Adjusting Hearing Aids

for years, self-adjusting hearing aids have been available overseas, gaining FDA approval and offering a possibly more accessible solution. The price point, around $650 including taxes, is considerably lower than traditional options, making them an attractive choice.However, obtaining these devices in Korea has been difficult – until recently.

I decided to try them because of the lower cost and the convenience of self-adjustment. It wasn’t easy to get them in Korea, but I was persistent to explore this option.
