Sony Electronics has introduced the FE 8-14mm F3.5 Fisheye G (SEL814G), marking the company’s first fisheye zoom G Lens designed for full-frame Alpha E-mount cameras. Priced at $1,599.99 USD in the United States and $1,999.99 CAD in Canada, the new optic is scheduled to arrive in October 2026, according to Sony Electronics.
Fisheye Zoom Capabilities and Focal Range
The SEL814G covers an 8mm to 14mm focal range, allowing photographers and cinematographers to shift between circular and diagonal fisheye perspectives. At the 8mm end, the lens delivers a circular fisheye image featuring a 180-degree angle of view projected onto a full-frame sensor. Zooming out to 14mm switches the capture format to a diagonal fisheye across the entire frame. According to Sony Electronics Vice President of Imaging Solutions Yang Cheng, the zoom lets creators “find your perspective standing right in front of the subject” while maintaining G Lens optical standards.
Optical Construction and Close-Up Performance
Inside the compact barrel, the lens incorporates Extra-low Dispersion (ED) glass and aspherical elements to suppress chromatic aberrations across the image area. The optical design achieves a minimum focusing distance of 0.15 meters and a maximum magnification of 0.22x at the telephoto end.
Mobility, Rig Integration, and Spatial Content Production
Weighing approximately 314 grams and measuring 63.1 mm in maximum diameter by 82.8 mm in length, the lens is built for handheld, gimbal, and rig configurations. This spacing matches the average human interpupillary distance, enabling spatial content production and virtual reality applications with a natural sense of depth.
Video Production Features and Weather Resistance
For filmmakers, the lens suppresses focus breathing and features a quiet autofocus drive alongside Linear Response manual focus controls. Physical controls on the lens body include a focus mode switch, a zoom lock switch, and an aperture ring with switchable click stops. Sony Electronics built the exterior with a dust- and moisture-resistant design supplemented by a fluorine coating on the front element, though the manufacturer notes the body is not guaranteed to be fully waterproof.
Pricing, Availability, and Exhibition
Pre-orders for the SEL814G opened at 7 AM PST on September 8, 2026, ahead of store availability in October 2026. Sony Electronics will showcase the new fisheye zoom at its booth during the IBC 2026 conference in Amsterdam, Netherlands, beginning September 11, 2026.
