South King County Fine Arts Roundup October Schedule

South King County arts organizations have released their October schedules, offering residents a wide selection of concerts, gallery receptions, and community theatrical productions. According to coverage from regional community reporting, local venues across Burien, Auburn, Kent, and White Center are hosting events tailored to various artistic tastes throughout the month.

The slate opens with a high-voltage tribute concert at the Highline Performing Arts Center in Burien. On Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 7:00 p.m., the venue hosts “Thunderstruck: A Classic Rock Tribute,” featuring candlelit, live-looped reimaginings of songs like AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” Lynyrd Skynyrd’s “Free Bird,” and Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir.” General admission tickets are priced at $35.98, with VIP options at $46.65, youth tickets at $18.91, and family passes available for $87.21 via Eventbrite.

Indian Music, Orchestral Debuts, and Acoustic Guitar in Auburn and Kent

Auburn’s Postmark Center for the Arts presents “Second Saturdays: Music and Arts of India” on Saturday, Oct. 10, beginning at noon. This free community event features a 12:00 p.m. workshop on the traditional sand-art form Kolam, followed by a 2:00 p.m. performance from the South Indian fusion band Dhwayam. Later that evening in Kent, the Kent Spotlight Series brings acoustic guitarist Andy McKee to the Kent-Meridian Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m., with tickets ranging from $30 for youth to $36 for general admission.

Concurrently, the Northwest Symphony Orchestra takes over the Highline Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 7:30 p.m. for its “Sounds of the American West Family Concert.” The program includes Brent Irwin’s “Cowboy Suite” in a world premiere, alongside student-composed works from the Highline School District, Key to Change Studio, and West Seattle High School. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for seniors over 60, and free for students up to 18.

Symphonic Re-imaginings and Community Theater Across the Region

The Auburn Symphony Orchestra performs “Eternal Seasons” at the Auburn Performing Arts Center on Sunday, Oct. 11, at 2:30 p.m. Concertmaster takes center stage for Max Richter’s post-minimalist reimagining of Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” paired with Mozart’s “Jupiter” symphony.

In theatrical programming, the Auburn Community Players mount Disney’s “The Little Mermaid” at the Green River College Student Affairs Building from Oct. 16 through Oct. 25, with evening performances at 7:30 p.m. and weekend matinees at 2:00 p.m.

Highline Heritage Museum Hosts Community Art Events

Community events extend to museums and local gathering spaces throughout the month. The Highline Heritage Museum in Burien hosts “Beyond Treaties: Native Stories of Survival and Strength” with Muckleshoot artist John Halliday on Wednesday, Oct. 14, at 1:00 p.m. The museum also presents “7 Stories : Skeletons in the Closet” on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7:00 p.m., featuring seven community members sharing seven-minute true stories for free.

Visual arts offerings include the ongoing “Nightweed: Collage & Painting” by Annie Walker at the Highline Heritage Museum through October, the “Dia de Los Muertos Art Show” at Nepantla Cultural Arts Gallery in White Center running through November, and the self-guided “Rat City Art Walk” on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Additional submissions or calendar inquiries can be directed to Amy Robinson at budget.arts.in.king.county@gmail.com.
